Small Business Saturday is more than a shopping day; it’s a celebration of the heart, purpose, and people behind local businesses. And for us at Love Marlow, this day brings us back to the very moment our journey began.
The Moment That Changed Everything
We remember walking into local boutiques, hopeful, excited, ready to shop, just like anyone else. But instead of leaving with new outfits and confidence, we left with something very different: We left feeling unseen. We left feeling rejected, like always, even though we had done our research. We made sure they said they carried plus-size clothing, but in the end, the boutiques didn’t carry our sizes.
We were told as kindly as possible, but it was clear from the research that we had done that it was futile, and they really didn’t carry our size. There was the say hi, but avoid us as much as possible tactic. Then we would search around enough to finally ask if they carry plus-sizes, and we would either get a harsh no or no, but we have larges that run generous, but in the end, nothing would fit.
And in that experience, we realized a truth that far too many mid-size and plus-size women know all too well:
No woman should have to shrink herself to fit into a store or clothing.
No woman should feel unwelcome, invisible, or unworthy because of a number on a tag.
That moment sparked everything that came next.
